Overview

Camphill is an independent, voluntary day and residential school for children and young people with additional support and special educational needs. Our services are provided over five sites each with up to 30 buildings, and include:

• Asbestos Management Surveys and re-inspections
• Asbestos removal management
• Consultancy and analytical works
• Asbestos Awareness and Asbestos Duty to Manage training.

On initial contract award, we conducted a desktop survey and held a pre-start meeting. Due to the nature of the facilities and the scope of the school, there were a large number of stakeholders we needed to consult with in the course of carrying out management surveys and re-inspections.

Approach

Contractors working at the school need to be flexible and adaptable, as circumstances and previously agreed arrangements may need change at short notice. Prior to contract start, we gathered contact details for each site contract. Our consultants were then able to contact them on site to discuss access issues and if required rearrange access at a convenient time.

A key priority for us was to ensure that our work was carried out as sensitively and with as little inconvenience as possible. This included being aware of the impact of noise, signage and work-related activities on sensory hyper-sensitivity students. To combat this, we planned our work around school activities and with the aim of reducing disruption as much as possible.

Some of the sites involved inspection and work in buildings occupied with live-in staff, who we arranged to be relocated whilst the work was undertaken. We also provided contact details for a liaison officer for residents to contact if they had any questions.

What the client says

“We realised that a re-inspection was overdue and asked Matthew to visit. He was able to come at very short notice, did a re-inspection of the whole premises, and gave very thorough recommendations as to how to reinstate the damaged ceilings with the minimum risk to the joiner and painter who were waiting to come on site.

All in all, we were delighted and very grateful for the service we received.”
