More asbestos left dumped in Blackpool streets

An investigation has been launched after asbestos sheets were dumped outside two addresses in Bispham.

It took two council workers two-and-a-half hours to clean up the debris which had been tipped onto the pavements on Fleetwood Road and Briarwood Drive, totalling 360kg in weight.

Blackpool Council chiefs are appealing for information about the incidents which both happened on Monday afternoon at some point between 2pm and 5pm.

Coun Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council, said:

“Not only is fly tipping illegal, but it is also a completely unacceptable blight on our local communities.

We believe both of these fly tips took place in broad daylight on Monday afternoon and I am convinced somebody must have seen something that will lead us to finding the culprits and bringing them to justice.

It is not just a crime but it also costs the council time and money to clear it up. We need the community to stay vigilant to help us stop fly tipping.

People should only have their waste removed by legitimate registered waste carriers and offers to remove rubbish that seem too cheap to be true normally are.”
