Daily Record reveals over 200 hospitals across Scotland containing killer asbestos

Deadly asbestos has been found in several hospitals and health centres across Scotland.

More than 200 medical facilities contain cancer-causing asbestos – which was used as a cheap, fire-proof substance in the second-half of the 20th century.

Inhaling asbestos fibres can lead to the killer disease mesothelioma – a lung cancer – which appears up to 50 years after exposure.

Our research found the deadly mineral was present in 225 buildings used by patients across the country’s regional NHS boards.

The Daily Record has published a list of the facilities across Scotland which contain asbestos – you can read it here.
