Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team awarded grant by Heritage Lottery Fund to record role of asbestos in our 20th century industrial heritage

Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team have been awarded a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund to record the role that asbestos took in our 20th century industrial heritage.

They want to raise the profile of this aspect of our history, ensuring greater awareness of asbestos use and the fact that it is still part of the fabric of our country.

As part of this they are recording where and how asbestos was used from the 1940s to the 1990s. Exposure to just a few loose asbestos fibres can result in the deadly cancer mesothelioma.

The information on their website can be used to find out where this deadly substance could still be lurking. You can also check out our Locating Asbestos infographics here.

Finally, DAST have also produced this guide for heritage workers, dealers in vintage memorabilia and property renovators that can be read here.
